JOB INTERVIEW DO'S & DON'TS

DO:

• arrive early for all interviews

• be positive and enthusiastic, smile often

• dress appropriately. No jeans, shorts, hats, etc.

• be prepared. Know your resume and your references

• show interest in the company, ask questions

• talk about your successes, not your failures

• focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses

• be polite and professional no matter how difficult the interview

• demonstrate good body language (handshake, eye contact, posture, etc.)

• remember the interviewer's name

• be relaxed and friendly, but not too casual or chummy

• listen carefully

• thank the interviewer when it is over and give a firm handshake

DON'T:

• bring up money issues at the first interview

• lie or exaggerate about skills or experience

• talk poorly about present or previous employers

• smoke or chew gum, even if your interviewer does

• drink alcoholic beverages under ANY circumstances during your interview

• undersell yourself

• worry if you don't get the first job for which you interview. This is common!
